Europe IN-BETWEEN DOCUMENTARY and FICTION Erich Lessing’s photographs on Post-World War II Europe EXPANDED

The National Dance Center Bucharest – Romania

2009

The exhibition ”EUROPE: IN BETWEEN DOCUMENT AND FICTION. Erich Lessing’s photographs on Post-World War II Europe EXPANDED” shows a selection of photographs by Erich Lessing that can be described as documents of Post-World War II Europe. Erich Lessing is one of Austria’s most renowned photographers and a member of the prestigious photo agency Magnum Photos, who has chronicled the world and interpreted its people, events, issues and personalities. Erich Lessing’s photojournalism allows for an understanding of what it means to think about history, Europe and photography. Furthermore, works from selected artists from the respective countries can be seen, which react to Lessing’s photographs and create parallel histories – histories which conceptually reflect the social, political and historical changes in the region with and through the medium of photography.
